A Williamson Turn is a boating maneuver used to bring a vessel back to a person who has gone overboard, especially useful in low visibility. It involves turning the rudder hard over to the side the person fell, and after deviating about 60 degrees from the original course, reversing the rudder hard to the opposite side to return along the reciprocal course. The turn is completed by bringing the rudder to the middle position when the vessel is about 20 degrees short of the return course, allowing it to settle back onto the original track.
